Small modular reactors (SMRs) are generating plenty of interest among governments keen to ramp up atomic energy production to help them hit net zero targets. Supporters claim that SMRs are safer, cheaper, faster and easier to build than large-scale plants. But as the FT’s Myles McCormick explains, cost and safety concerns still need to be overcome.
