Revolutionary Fossil Discovery In Netherlands’ Cave System | Underground Marvels | Science Channel

Split under Belgium and the Netherlands, the St. Pietersburg cave system runs 155 miles. Farmers started mining the cave’s limestone to help build houses, which resulted in a vast tunnel system. The Dutch also built a fort above the caves to help protect from French attacks. Later, the tunnels would also lead to major scientific discovery and be used to hide Dutch relics during Nazi invasion.
