UK Election 2024: The headlines | BBC News

Here are the election headlines for Sunday 16 June.

Shadow health secretary Wes Streeting has said that he wanted Labour’s manifesto for the general election to be “more ambitious” on social care reform.

For the Conservatives, Transport Secretary Mark Harper said he believes the election offers people a choice between tax cuts or tax rises, adding the Tories had set out a clear programme for government that was fully-costed.

SNP leader John Swinney has accused both the Conservatives and Labour of a conspiracy of silence about the scale of public spending cuts to come.

Liberal Democrats leader Sir Ed Davey said he does not believe you can sort out the health service, unless you sort out social care, which he said was at the “centre” of their manifesto.
