Desperate journeys – the migrant trail across Italy and France – BBC News

Italy’s prime minister has warned that Europe will be overwhelmed by migration unless the EU finds solutions.

Most of the people smugglers’ boats carrying migrants into Europe arrive in Italy. More than 130,000 people have arrived there so far in 2023, almost double the number who arrived the year before.

Many of the migrants aim to move on from Italy, travelling north to counties such as Germany, France or the UK.

Katya Adler presents BBC News at Ten reporting by Mark Lowen on the migrant journey across Italy’s border with France.
