UAE imposes indefinite trade embargo on Iran over alleged missile attacks

The United Arab Emirates has announced it is imposing an indefinite trade embargo on Iran, with the Foreign Ministry saying Tehran is “undermining regional and international peace and security.” The announcement follows an earlier statement by the UAE’s Defence Ministry that it had detected two ballistic missiles launched from Iran towards the country. Iran’s Foreign Ministry has rejected the accusations, calling them baseless and saying the incident is a “false flag operation.” In an interview with Al Jazeera, retired General Mark Kimmitt, a former US Assistant Secretary of State, said Dubai is the largest seller of imported goods to Iran, exceeding China and Turkey, with one-third of Iran’s imports coming from the UAE. He said the embargo could be “even more significant than the embargo being put on by the United States” and warned that Iran “might go to war with the UAE because of it.” President Donald Trump posted that the Strait of Hormuz is open, while the US naval blockade of Iran remains in place.
